New poll...

As of recent, I have really been thinking about the difficult task that some politicians have to undertake... especially the presidential administration. This task is one of public relations, appealing to the masses, trying to garner as many votes as possible, gain the most support and so on. How does one in such a position of government (representative, legislative, executive) manage to do this without upsetting the moral standards of large numbers of people, without losing large amounts of votes? I sense that modern campaign politics are undertaken with the ideal of appealling to as many people as possible... which is fine, but how far should one go to do so? Personally attack their opponents, lie by omission, try to gain financial support from as many institutions as possible? This bugs me, and it gets very messy if one thinks about it hard enough.

While this is very idealistic, and possible naive, I think it would be nice if candidates could say what they mean, and mean what they say, and be heard in the process. As it is now, or rather before the democratic primaries, there was about five or six presidential candidates that got media attention. While they were different people, there didn't seem to be much variety, or choice... and if there was, any seemingly radical viewpoints got brushed aside or didn't get the "fair and balanced" attention that they deserved. I feel like us, as onlookers, citizens and what have you, along with the media are locked into this weird conundrum over how information is delivered and recieved. In the end, whoever gets the most votes (or a supreme court decision), wins, and ultimately leaves the losers upset... the masses (or the supreme court) presumably decide, and this is great, but what are people basing their votes on? Misleading, washed over rhetoric, or real issues... probably a bit of both, and then some. Though judging by the responses of many who are in favor of the monkey, it is more rhetoric than anything... makes me sad. Check out the poll... click the vote button... Ciao.

P.S. Blogger has added some new options to the word processor here, so I now have the ability to mess with the font and color without having to mess with HTML tags... cool. Also, I apologize for the lack of post action lately as I have been busy not staring at this computer screen, doing stuff on the weekends and whatnot, but alas, blogging in blogdom continues.
