Coming to a Town Near You... Maybe

That is, if you live in a "battleground" state, in which case you can expect both campaigns to be touring ruthlessly. THE dub visited the city of St. Cloud, MN this morning. Because of the fact that I live here most of the time, I felt compelled to stand on the side of the highway with a sign that read, "BUSH LIES, THOUSANDS HAVE DIED... "ON HIS WATCH". Honestly, this is the first time that I have attended any kind of protest and one thing was clear, which I'm sure is to most people by now: The country is utterly divided on this issue. Suprise, right? I've realized this more and more as this election "heats up", (to borrow a cliche news convention that so many love to use).
It was interesting to witness this firsthand as I got an equal number of responses from both sides. People honked, people waved, people gave me the finger. One elderly man leaned forward in the seat of his car and after looking like he didn't know what to say, he yelled, "fuck you!". Now that's original. Another interesting and kind of comical thing that happened as THE dub's motorcade passed by the protest crowd was a loudspeaker coming from his bus that said, "thank you for your support"... douchebag. I'm sure it wasn't actually him speaking, but rather a recording, still ironic enough to make me say, "wtf".
For the most part, me and the girlfriend stood on our own, even taking to the streets in town for a little bit. T'was an interesting experience, I just love watching people's reactions. My personal intention wasn't necessarily to sway voters, but rather, to observe the political climate in a new way. Also, as the walking dude (blog visitor) said, in the hopes of tapping into a collective consciousness.

Meanwhile, UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan has dubbed the war in Iraq illegal. Chalk another one up for Mr. Decisive. This'll be just great for our image in the world, as if it hasn't been tattered enough in the last 4 years. Since when did being "decisive" become a good thing if you make horrible decisions, christ. Meh.
