Convention this, convention that...

So, there was this place in boston where thousands of democratic delegates came to nominate their candidate for president, along with about 15,000 media peeps, which included approximately 35 well known bloggers. What else happened? Loads of democratic congressman, representatives, ex presidents and other spokespeople talked nonstop for four days about why dub's gotta go and how they want to make everyone happy.

I watched a couple speeches each night and while I caught glimpses of occasional realism, it was mostly a cheerleading sqaud. Don't get me wrong, I am going to support Kerry as it is the only rational possibility of unseating our mentally unstable prez, but naturally the convention wasn't much more than GO TEAM!---, with a few exceptions...

First, al glory gore opens with "Know this--- your vote counts! Take it from me." That was nice to hear right off the bat. Fox news didn't cover the national anthem (while every other network did) and apparently Bill o' Really doesn't stand during the anthem. Not that I mind if he does, just interesting to know.

Cutting to the chase on monday, Clinton whooped major ass, in my opinion anyway. I don't know anybody that saw it and didn't think it was excellent. The man could talk his way out of a steel box with walls eight feet thick. Many things that I've read lately describe it along the lines of a symphony of language... good way to start off the week in any case. Go here to watch any of the speeches.

All the while, micheal moore was invited by jimmi carter's family to sat next to them in their vip box... also, he managed to get on o'really's show to debate a bit about bush lying... here's the transcript.

Tuesday:
Howard dean spoke, basically rooting for the team, though not with the same energy about him, but I could see a little demon wanting to come out... to no avail. Dick gephardt reminds me of one of those reptile characters from the old tv series, "V". Nothing personal... he just creeps me out. Good guy though... I think.

Barack Obama apparently gave a pretty good speech... still haven't viewed it though. It was good to see ron reagan there for obvious reasons as he talked a lot about stem cell research and scientific research to cure diseases, which is good, for obvious reasons.

Then, Theresa Heinz Kerry was fairly impressive. I believe she greeted the audience in four or five different languages, showing off the fact that she's multi-lingual. Just as well, she grew up in east? africa, was a former un interpreter and is one of the richest women in america; heir to her late husband's fortune. Food for consideration: compare this experience to that of the present first lady.

Wednesday:
Mr. sharpton declares to the monkey that the african american vote "is not for sale", among other things that weren't scripted or planned. During this diatribe, wolf blitzer of cnn stops coverage of sharpton halfway through and begins a discussion focused on how his speech was more or less a disgrace to african-americans. I hate people... some people.

Edwards delivered a perky speech that I thought was overall decent, yet filled with the usual goooo team rhetoric and one liners... fierce optimism that has been criticized by some as unrealistic.

Thursday:
Finally, the speech that was supposed to matter the most, and arguably did, I failed to see in it's entirety due to random conversation between me and a friend. From what I did see though, it was overall good. One thing that bothered me was in the first minutes of his speech, he said something that I've heard him say other times; "I was born in the west wing", followed by a bashful, "i know i've said this over and over, but it just sounds good" look on his face... kinda cheesy. Again, the optimistic, euphemistic rhetoric set an idealistic tone while saying what they want to accomplish without saying how they plan on doing so.

As a result of my political dissilusionment, I want to hear more from kerry and edwards, and will continue to be critical of what they say--- but over and above everything, they sound better than the monkey's PR efforts, and if we can start by making sure he doesn't get reelected (if he doesn't totally lose it first), we're in better hands than we ever will be with this administration.
Again, go here for any of the speeches... laters.
