Conscious Sleep

The Mind is pure, mysterious, permanent & Essential ... the mind is indivisible and not broken up into six pieces by Eye, Ear, Nose, Tongue, Body, Brain ... these Six are like knots in a single beautiful silk handkerchief...

... you will come to where suddenly an unpleasant sound, such as someone's sickly coughing, becomes neithr unpleasant nor pleasant because you will have gone beyond such impermanent and arbitrary consideration, into a strange chamber of inward glory, wherin, with your outside body completely asleep and feeling empty as air and hands and feet numb and exisenenceless it seems your mind wide awake and Bright, you will realize that it is the deep ignorance of the world that has caused the cough, which sound is emanating from a suffering sentient being by means of motion and the soundwaves emanating from the motion, registering upon your keen transcendental Hearing the quiver of deaths & rebirths, which are imaginary states in tormented form abiding among the great reality calms of essence. --- This is the conscious sleep of a great meditation ecstasy and is the path away from currents of life & death, to Nirvana, which is the eye. -- Jack Kerouac, Some of the Dharma

Just bought the aforementioned book that contains much of Kerouac's poetry, haiku, and various ramblings -- so you might expect to hear from him now and then. Relatively cheap @ 17.95 US (it really is a giant book), this one far exceeds it's monetary value. I've been meaning to add some Allen Ginsburg to my library, though I just haven't gotten around to it. It's part of that mental list of authors/books to get, which many of us keep in the back of our minds only to remember when broke and/or unable to find said book(s). And I've been reading other authors. There's too much good literature out there -- it's hard to avoid reading three or four books at once (though not simultaneously, of course).

Okay, enough with the tangents; a couple more blurbs from Some of the Dharma:

It's a solid sea of mind filled with imaginary vibrations that create sensation in the different creatures who are only different forms of mind ---look upon all creatures as different forms of mind & kindness is inevitable --- these creatures come & go but mind abides, the Sound of Mind continues, Hearing hears on...

The Truth is so Vast that it can afford to say that it is only a figure of speech.

The Truth is so Vast that it can afford to say that there is no Truth.

There is neither Truth nor Untruth, only Universal Essence of Mind.
