To believe, or NOT to believe? That is the question..

Well we all have to ask ourselves this question at one time or another. To believe that god exists, or that he does not exist. Pascal's Wager states either you believe in him and are saved or else you are damned. But if he doesn't exist, you have wasted your life. Personally I prefer the athiest's Wager. I believe that if one lives his life according to certain moral standards and tries to do "right" that it won't matter, because really, isn't that the point of following god anyway? I can't bring myself to believe that the Cardinals who persecuted people for being "witches" were really following gods laws and therefore let in to heaven. I don't (can't) believe that if I don't attend church regularly and worship god regularly that I will rot in eternal damnation. I can't believe that if I choose to not worship god that he, it, will hold it agaist me. Then again I'm not totally an athiest because I don't disbelieve that there is a god. I do however find fault within the beliefs of the present religions. And that the icon/perception of god is incorrect. I believe in the statement, "do unto others as you would have done unto you". Is it really a waste of your life to treat others with the same respect that you would have yourself? I don't believe so. Let's just say that there really is a god and that he is the Christian god that many hold to be. Let's go even farther and say that he is the Catholic god. Do you know how many people WON'T get in to heaven? The few that do wouldn't be the type of people that I would want to spend eternity with in the first place. Can one really believe all that? Maybe in that case I will chose not to believe and be damned because really, that is where everyone else of like mind will be.

I think you would like the movie called "Saved!". It has Mandy Moore and Macaulay Culkin in uncharacteristic roles. The movie rips on religion, but more than anything it rips on intolerance. "Saved!" is available for rent on Tue. Oct 5.
